Extra time in a soccer match, also called Overtime is an additional period of play after regular 90 minutes. If there is not a winner in regular time and we know that soccer match has two halves and each half is 45 minutes long. There is 15 minutes break between two halves. However, Stoppage time also, called injury time is the additional time at the end of each half. The stoppage time depends on delays in regular time. The common reason for stoppage time may be time wasting by the players, time lost for substitutions, injuries during the game etc.
Extra time is 30 minutes long, two halves of 15 minutes. If there is no winner after extra time each team has 5 penalties and after penalties, after that, the winner can be determined.
There is no more sudden death or golden goal rule in extra time. After regular 5 penalties for each team if the winner still cannot be determent, then both teams take sudden death penalties, penalties are taken one by one till the moment when one of the team missed a penalty. Then a winner can be determined.

In February 2004, it is announced that after Euro 2004 in Portugal, the golden goal is no longer option for winning a soccer match.
